Allan Ray Underwood, 75, died Wednesday at his residence.
He lived most of his life in Homestead, Florida, moving to Metter in 2005.
He earned a Criminal Justice degree and in 1957 he signed and played baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals. He retired in 1995 after farming with his father for over 35 years. He served on the District Advisory Board for the Church of the Nazerene for 19 years, Trevecca College Board for 14 years and was a member of the Metter United Methodist Church. He enjoyed all sports, especially the Metter Tigers and was named Metter Tiger fan of the year in 2010 and 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Jesse and Susie May Underwood, wife Dorothy McCullough Underwood, son, Mark Underwood.
Survivors: son; Paul (Charmaine) Underwood of Homestead, FL, daughter; Robbie (Fred) Mock of Homestead, FL, daughter-in-law, Terri Underwood of Metter.
Brother; Rev. Ted (Sharon) Underwood of Ft. Pierce, FL, sisters; Carol Sue (Dan) Burry of Homestead, FL, Mary Elizabeth (Dale) Taylor of Fayetteville, GA. Grandchildren; Jessica Mock, Jake Mock, Ethan Mock, Dalton Underwood, Amanda Underwood, Jesse Underwood, Garrett Underwood.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, 10 AM at the Metter United Methodist Church with Rev. Whit Byram and Rev. Ted Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Primitive Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Campbell, Trent Franklin, Charlie Hendricks, Jamey Underwood, Jeff Underwood, Jody Underwood, Chris West and Jeff Zilmer.
