Betty Collins

January 6, 1946 — June 27, 2014

Metter - Betty Roberts Wimberly Collins, 68, died Friday evening at Candler County Hospital. The Barnesville, Georgia native resided in Swainsboro for 47 years before moving to Metter 17 years ago. She was a graduate of Swainsboro High School, Class of 1964. She worked many years at Hooks Milling Company and was retired from the Emanuel County Tax Commissioners office.

She was a former member of the Swainsboro First Baptist Church and moved her membership to the Metter First Baptist Church. There she served on the card committee, worked with vacation bible school, AWANA and taught children's Sunday school. She was also active with Relay for Life and the American Heart Association.

Betty enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Friday night dinners out, traveling, playing the piano and "shagging" to the local bands. She was a kind, loving person who enjoyed being with people, always lending a helping hand and putting others first. She loved the Lord and lit the way for others with her great smile. She never met a stranger and love permeated her soul. She will be dearly missed by all her knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Lovett Wimberly, Sr., Father, John R. Roberts, Brother, Jimmy Roberts.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, 2pm at Swainsboro First Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Blankenship and Rev. Grady Collins officiating with burial to follow
in the Swainsboro City Cemetery with Rev. Louis Pearce officiating. The body will lie in state 12 noon until funeral time. Pallbearers will be Jim Dekle, Keith Johnson, Jerry Lanier, Jim Roberts, Doug Scott and Dale Wright.

Visitation will be Sunday evening 5-7 at Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes, Metter Chapel.
