Betty Sue McKinzie, age 85, passed away on January 26, 2025, at Glenvue Health & Rehab in Glennville, Georgia. Born on April 21, 1939, in Glennville, Betty was a lifelong resident of the area.

A proud graduate of Glennville High School, class of 1957, where she played basketball, Betty embarked on a fulfilling career in civil service at Fort Stewart, where she devoted 20 years before retiring. She continued her commitment to serving others as a Certified Nursing Assistant for Glenvue Health & Rehab, touching the lives of many with her compassionate care.

Betty’s interests were vast, but her true joys lay in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid lover of flowers and could often be found nurturing her flowers or spending leisurely afternoons baking and cooking for her family. Betty had a keen eye for yard sales and enjoyed searching for unique treasures. She also relished her time at the beach, where she created beautiful memories with those she loved most. As a grandmother, she adored spending time with her grandchildren, sharing laughter and wisdom in equal measure.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob McKenzie, sister, Patsy Stanfield Dasher and a son, Wally Grooms.

Daughter, Sherry Smith (DJ) of Reidsville, Georgia

Grandchildren, Chris Grooms of Savannah, Georgia, Brad Grooms of Glennville, Georgia, Camille Durrence (Dalton) of Glennville, Georgia, Brandon Grooms (Kaley), Cody Grooms of Claxton, Georgia

Special Nephew, Dr. Glen Dasher of Statesboro, Georgia

Nine Great Grandchildren, Two Great-Great Grandchildren, Several Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Brannen Family Funeral Services. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at the chapel of Brannen Family Funeral Services with Rev. Mike Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Glennville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers: Chris Grooms, Brandon Grooms, Wally Brannen, Brad Grooms, Trey Blanton, Andrew Darden.
