Betty Sue Barrow Smith, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Evans Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 15, 1935, to Ollie and Slatie Cribbs Barrow, in same town she called home throughout her life.
Betty Sue was a 1953 graduate of Glennville High where she played basketball for the Bulldogs when they were State Champions in 1952 and 1953.
Betty Sue was a homemaker, raising five children before working at the Glennville Lingerie Factory for many years.
She enjoyed flower gardening, especially growing her favorite, knock out roses and vegetable gardening. Bringing her family to the table over a home cooked meal was one of the great joys of her life.
Betty Sue loved to fish and travel. She also loved to watch the Atlanta Braves and RFD TV. Betty Sue was a member of the Country Boy Plow Club.
She found solace in watching and feeding hummingbirds. In her later years you could find her most days sitting on her back porch, from sunup to sundown.
If you asked her one of her greatest accomplishments was undoubtedly her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She poured endless love into their lives, Nannie was her name and spoiling was her game.
Betty Sue was a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ottis “Buddy” Barrow, C.H. Barrow, son in law, Billy Allen, grandson, Greg Allen and her husband of 69 years, Walter “Buck” Smith, Jr.
She is survived by:
Children, Mitchell Smith (Lisa), Betty Ann Brannen (Bobby), Wanda Sue Allen (Grady Blaxton), Glenn Smith (Beverly), Jane Branch (Keith) all of Glennville, Georgia
Grandchildren, Joe Banks (Valorie), Amy Quick (Lee), Tori Boyett (Landon), Trevor Smith, Zach Allen, Casey Strickland (Evan), Evan Smith
Thirteen great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Visitation will begin 5:00 pm, Friday, July 5, 2024, at Brannen Family Funeral Services. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Chapel of Brannen Family Funeral Services. Burial will be in Glennville City Cemetery.
