Mrs. Betty Turner Vogel, 88, passed away Monday October 25, 2010 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Ga.
She was born in Bulloch County and attended Westside School. She then moved to Savannah, where she worked as a welder building liberty ships during World War II. She spent most of her life in Macon, where she was employed in the billing department of the Southern and Central of Georgia railroads for about 30 years. Mrs. Vogel was a multi-talented and artistic person who enjoyed quilting and painting. She designed and built her home in Macon.
Survivors include her husband, George Vogel of Macon; her daughter, Sondra Ownbey of Metter; her son and daughter-in-law, George C. and Linda Vogel of Waycross; her son and daughter-in-law, Greg Vogel and Mary Ann Stanley of Statesboro; her daughter and son-in-law, Cherrie and Sanders Howell of Macon; a sister, Nita Morgan of Metter; four brothers, M.W. Turner of Puyallup, Wash., Remer Turner of Metter, John Turner of Savannah, and Jimmy Turner of Bloomingdale; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be 5:00 Wednesday October 27, at the Alderman Cemetery with visitation from 3:00-4:30 at the funeral home the day of the service.
