Byron Rogers Jr.

March 22, 1921 — January 26, 2015

Byron G. "B.G." Rogers, Jr., 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015. He was born in Glennville, Georgia, March 22, 1921 to the late Byron G. Rogers, Sr. and Julia Smiley Rogers and lived here all of his life. He was a member since 1948 of the Glennville Free Will Baptist Church where he served as deacon, trustee and assistant Sunday School Superintendent for many years. B.G. was inducted into the United States Army in July 1942 where he faithfully served until November 1945 during World War II. He served with the 244th field artillery battalion in the Third Army under General George S. Patton. His unit served in five major battles, to include the Battle of the Bulge, Invasion of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received five battle stars and a certificate of appreciation for his courageous participation in the liberation of France from the French Government. He was a charter and life member of the Glennville VFW Post # 8379 and American Legion Post #95. He was a charter member of Friends of the National WW II Monument in Washington, DC. He retired from the U.S Postal Service as a Rural Mail Carrier in 1982 and was chosen 1988 Man of the Year in Soil Conservation for Tattnall County and in 2006 was chosen Outstanding Farmer by Tattnall County Farm Bureau. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jewel Phillips, Edna Belle Mulligan; brothers, Ira, Carlton and Billy Rogers; great grandsons, Drake Walker and Chance Kennedy.

Brothers: Emory (Etwinda) Rogers of Reidsville, GA
Jack (Anne) Rogers of Glennville, GA
Sister in-law: Ola Mae Rogers of Glennville, GA
Grandchildren: Lynn (Joey) McGlashan, Jason (Tia) Walker, Benjie Walker, Byron (Mara) Brannen, Brooke Brannen, Mitch (Candice) Rogers. Ten Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Special Friend, John Milton Carter, Special Caregivers, Robin Stanfield, Janie Golden and Patty Reddish
Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm, Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from the chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. David Thomas and Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. Burial will be in Glennville City Cemetery with Military Honors.
