Charles Luther Smith, Sr.86, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville for over 35 years. He was a WWII veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air corps and saw combat for over four years mostly in the Philippine Islands as a radio operator. He was committed to serving his country and continued his service in the U.S. Air Force for another 29 years through the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He retired as a Senior Master Sgt and NCO/IC of Laredo AFB, in 1973.

Larry G. Smith and Joseph Lynn Smith (Darlene), both of Jacksonville,FL
He was an adoring "Papaw" to grandchildren: Joshua Smith (Lori), Kelly Smith, Melissa Smith, Aubrey Smith (Josh), Haley Smith, Nichole Browne (Branden), Cory Browne (Ashley), Lyndsey Smith and Logan Smith.
Great-Grandchildren: Makayla, Madison, Hayden & Piper.
Funeral Services will be at 12:00 noon , Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
