David Gilmour

Shellman Bluff, Georgia

David Robert Gilmour, 68, passed away in his home on Shellman Bluff on September 29th, 2019.  He joins his parents, Dave and Madge, and sister Gladys in heaven.  He is survived by his wife, Jane, his daughter Julie, stepdaughter Jamie, and stepsons Scott, Mark, and Matt.

Dave was born on March 9, 1951 in Massachusetts.  Early on, he developed a love of cars and all things mechanical.  He loved to race cars as a young man and made a career in construction.He moved to coastal Georgia in the 1990s and quickly fell in love with McIntosh County. He loved to spend his free time riding the waves, be it the creeks of McIntosh or the big waves of the open ocean on his way to the Bahamas or Florida Keys.A generous man, he donated countless hours of his time remodeling churches and building homes for family members, including his wife's dream home on the Julienton River.  He also spent time as a foster parent in group homes for teenagers.  He was a volunteer fire fighter with the Harris Neck Fire Station.  He was a member of Morgan's Chapel Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to McIntosh County Volunteer Fire Department, whose members will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Morgan's Chapel Methodist Church, 3308 Shellman Bluff Road, Townsend, GA 31331 with Memorial Funeral services to follow at 3:00 pm.Tuesday.
