Dennis Howard Strickland

On Thursday, January 13th, 2022, Dennis Howard Strickland, loving husband, brother, son, uncle and father of 3 passed away at the age of 56 in Glennville, GA.

Dennis was born February 8, 1965 in Athens, GA to Annette Thrift and William “Billy” Arlie Strickland.  Dennis and his sisters Susan and Sara grew up together with their parents in Glennville.  Dennis attended Pinewood Christian Academy for elementary through high school.  Dennis was an excellent student and athlete.  Dennis was an outstanding member of the Patriots Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track teams.  Dennis graduated from Pinewood in 1983.  Dennis received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Georgia in 1988.  While at UGA, Dennis was a member of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity.  Dennis also was on the University of Georgia Junior Varsity Football team.  After graduation, Dennis moved to Atlanta, GA and worked at Big B Drugs as a Store Pharmacist.  Shortly thereafter, Dennis relocated to Wilmington Island and worked at Memorial Hospital in Savannah.

During this time, Dennis met his loving wife Sindy, and they were married on May 21, 1994.  Dennis and Sindy moved to Glennville where Dennis worked alongside his father Billy at Strickland’s Pharmacy.  Dennis eventually took over Strickland’s Pharmacy and along with Sindy’s partnership, grew the business to an essential part of Glennville’s business community.  Dennis was recognized on the UGA Bulldog 100 in 2011 – recognizing Dennis and Strickland Pharmacy as one of the fastest growing businesses owned by UGA alumni.  Dennis has always been involved at First Baptist Church – Glennville serving as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and in many other capacities.  Dennis’ love for Glennville and the community led him to run for and attain a Glennville City Council position where he has served 3 terms and for over 18 years.  Dennis served as President of the Rotary Club as well as a Paul Harris Fellow.  He was a member of the Lion’s Club and served on the Downtown Development Authority.  Dennis served his community in so many ways and he was recognized as Tattnall County's Citizen of the Year in 2012.

It was no secret that Dennis loved sports and he was always ready to talk with his friends, cousins, nephews about the latest games, upcoming events, and he could quote you the latest set of statistics about any player.  Whether it was his Georgia Bulldogs, Pinewood Patriots, Atlanta Braves or many other organizations, Dennis was a great supporter of the teams he loved.

Dennis and Sindy have 3 children – Sydney Anne, Clint and Jack.  Sydney Anne is a sophomore at UGA and Clint and Jack are seniors at Pinewood Christian Academy and will attend UGA in the fall of 2022.  Dennis simply loved Pinewood and his service and support of the school was significant.  Dennis served as Pinewood Booster Club’s President from 2013 to 2019.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife Sindy and their children Sydney Anne, Clint and Jack, his sisters Susan, husband Marc, and Sara, husband Mark, and a large loving extended family.
