Edsel "Eddie" Coy Durrence, Jr. began his eternal life on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, in his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Eddie was born August 1, 1951, to the late Edsel Coy and Wynell Durrence, living his entire life in his beloved Mendes community. Eddie graduated from Glennville High School in 1969, where he lettered in varsity basketball. Upon completing an Associate in Science degree from Middle Georgia College in Cochran, GA, Eddie returned home to Mendes, where he married his high school sweetheart and one true love, Elizabeth "Libby" Ferris Thompson Durrence. A lifetime farmer in Tattnall County, Eddie raised hogs, crops and 5 loving daughters. Outside of his family, Eddie's greatest passion was coaching. For over 25 years, he committed himself to coaching softball and basketball at Pinewood Christian Academy, his second home, where he touched the lives of countless young women and men.
Eddie was a faithful member of the Glennville United Methodist Church. He served as a charter member of the Board of Directors of the South Georgia Bank since 1987, and he also served for 16 years on the Board of Governors for Pinewood Christian Academy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Thompson Durrence; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edsel Coy Durrence, Sr; his father-in-law H.D. Thompson, Sr.; and brother-in-law Dorsey Thompson
Survivors include
Daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Rogers (Charlton); Amber Wasson (Keith); Addie Wiggins (Bryan); Abigale Covey (Davey); Ashlan Porter (Jonathan).
Beloved Grandchildren - Thomas, Grace, and Ruth Rogers; Mic, Will and Sam Wasson; Libby Kate and Bonnie Blocker; and Caleb, Miles, and Maryn Covey

Mother-in-law - Elizabeth Jane Thompson

Several beloved nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm, Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, February 5, 2016 at the Glennville United Methodist Church with Rev. Sam Wilder and Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Burial will be in Love Chapel Church Cemetery.
