Edsel Ishmal Thompson, 92, passed away on November 18, 2024, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. Born on June 24, 1932, in his lifelong home of Glennville, Georgia to Hershel and Ala Mae Colson Thompson, Edsel led a life rich in warmth, friendship, and love for his family.
Throughout his life, Edsel's personality shone brightly as he was known for never having met a stranger and for his genuine love of people. His kindness and engaging spirit created lasting connections within the community and among the countless individuals whose lives he touched.
Edsel was not only dedicated to his work as a farmer but also found joy in the simpler pleasures of life. He loved to walk, and cherished time spent with his family. These passions reflected his appreciation for life's beautiful moments and the importance of relationships.
Edsel is preceded in death by his parents and beloved sisters, Cherry Strickland and Mary Thompson, as well as his brothers, Colvin Thompson and Carnell Thompson and a niece, Cathy Graham.
He is survived by his brother, Ellis Thompson of Macon, Georgia, as well as nieces and nephews, Henry Strickland (Carol) of Glennville, Georgia, Paul Strickland of Eastman, Georgia, Danny Strickland (Stephanie) of Louisville, Kentucky, Charles "Bucky" Strickland of Glennville, Georgia, Steve Strickland (Beth) of Warner Robins, Georgia, Alan Thompson (Mary) of Augusta, Georgia, Bobby Thompson (Sandra) of Macon, Georgia, and niece Jan Brown of Augusta, Georgia. He leaves behind a special friend, Martha Ann McGlashan and several other relatives.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm, Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Brannen Family Funeral Services. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, November 22, 2024, at Smyrna Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to: Glenvue Nursing Home and Rehab, 721 N. Veterans Blvd, Glennville, Georgia 30427.
