Edward Mulligan

June 20, 1920 — June 15, 2011

Glennville
Edward Franklin Mulligan, Jr., 90, died June 15, 2011 at his home. He was a native of Glennville, Georgia, born June 20, 1920, the ninth child of eleven to Laura Rogers Mulligan and Edward Franklin Mulligan, Sr. He graduated from Glennville High School and attended Emory at Oxford before enlisting in the United States Army after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. In the service he was a Morse code operator on airplanes and had the opportunity to fly with General Jimmy Doolittle. He was awarded four Bronze Stars. He not only believed in service to his country, but also to God, family and others. He accepted Christ and joined the Glennville United Methodist Church when he was thirteen years old. He was an unselfish person who dedicated his life to serving others. He was never one to enjoy the limelight. As a result, most of his acts of kindness are known only to those who received them. He had tremendous respect for all farmers and especially for his customers when he was a salesman for Moorman Manufacturing Company. Even though he was a man of few words, he could talk for hours to those farmers about crops and livestock. Although he worked long hours, he always made time for his family. He was a man of integrity who believed his word was his bond.
