Elbert Kicklighter

Elbert Bird Kicklighter, 88 passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family and friends. He was born January 15, 1926 in Glennville to Lee Iverson and Ollie Mae Bird Kicklighter and lived here all of his life. Elbert was the eldest of seven siblings and a 1943 graduate of Glennville High School. He served in the U.S Army in 1944 during World War II with the 11th Airborne Division as a paratrooper in the occupation of Japan. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1950 and married Duann Anderson on February 16, 1952. Elbert was a farmer and farmed the same land that he was born and died on. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish at Shellman Bluff, a true Southern Gentleman putting God and family first. He was a member and deacon of Loves Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, a past director of the Tattnall County Farm Bureau, Soil Conservation Man of the Year, a rural mail carrier and a civilian firefighter at Ft. Stewart. Elbert loved being with friends, playing pool and setback, telling old stories and being with his family. He was a caring, loving, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Gwen K. Kennedy
He is survived by, wife of 62 years, Duann Anderson Kicklighter of Glennville, GA

Sister in law, Freda Anderson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Grandchildren, Lori (Jonathan) Dutton, Katie (Cal) DeLoach, Rachel Kicklighter, Five Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 pm, Monday, March 17, 2014 at Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 2:00pm, Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Loves Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery with Military Honors. The body will be taken to the church at 1:00 pm to lie in state.
