ELEANORA FERNANDEZ PERKINS, 90, went home to be with the Lord on November 24, 2010 at Creekside Senior Village in Pensacola, Florida.
Eleanor was born in Navajo, New Mexico on October 2, 1920 to Gregorio and Salvadora Milan Fernandez. After graduating from Regina School of Nursing, Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1944 with an RN degree, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy Nurses' Corps. She served at the San Diego Naval Hospital in San Diego, California until she was honorably discharged on May 13, 1946.
She married Marvin L. Perkins on May 4, 1946, and they moved to Glennville, Georgia, where they lived for 40 years until her husband's death in 1989. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and served on the Crisis Committee for several years.
Eleven years ago, she moved to Pensacola, Florida, to live with her daughter Ann. For the last 6 years, she has lived at Creekside Senior Village, an Alzheimer's home. The nurses and caregivers from Creekside and Covenant Hospice have given her wonderfully loving care. The family wishes to express their deepest thanks to Creekside and Covenant Hospice.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Ray Gibbs of Pensacola, Florida; brother, Greg Fernandez of Albuquerque, New Mexico; granddaughter, Christina Gibbs; and sister-in-law Jewell Woodcock of Glennville, Georgia. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 A.M., Saturday, November 27, 2010, at the Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 at the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home with Dr. Dann Patrick and Rev. Tommy Jordan officiating. Burial will be in Glennville City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mr. Randy Braddy, Mr. Mike Mulligan, Mr. Will Perkins, Mr. Heath Smith, Mr. Adam Woodcock, Mr. Matt Woodcock, Mr. Travis Woodcock, and Mr. Trent Woodcock. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Barney Baxter, Mr. Jim Causey, Mr. Dan Dubberly, Jr., Mr. Jimmy Dubberly, Mr. Larry McLeod, Mr. Ed Mulligan, Mr. Andy Perkins, Mr. David Perkins, Dr. Troy Rahn, Mr. S.E. Smith, and Mr. Larry Woodcock.
Remembrances can be made to Creekside Senior Village caregivers' fund and Covenant Hospice.
