Gary Purcell

October 13, 1955 — November 18, 2014

Gary Neal Purcell, 59, of Claxton, Georgia beloved son, father, brother and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved on November 18, 2014 at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
Gary was born in Attleboro, Massachusetts and upon the age of 17 entered the US Army during the latter years of the Vietnam War in 1972. He served in many distinguished units during his 12 year service including 3/5 Infantry (Airborne) in Panama, 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg N.C.; 173rd Airborne Regiment Vicenza Italy; 1st Armored Division Germany and the 2nd Infantry Division, Korea. He was honorably discharged from the Active Army in 1986
Gary worked as a professional truck driver for many years following his military service until his retirement in Claxton, Georgia; a town where he would claim as home as well as a location he would come to know and love. He spent the majority of his final working years involved in his never-ending hobby of working on automobiles. His family and friends would note that he was fondly remembered as one who was always there to help anyone in need and was generous beyond measure.
Gary is survived by his two sons; Kyle Neal Purcell of New Bedford, Massachusetts and Mackenzie Neal Purcell of Millen, Georgia. His is also survived by his three daughters; Ann Marie Seifarth of Cresaptown Maryland; Sarah Marie Woods of Hinesville, Georgia and Kirsten Marie Purcell of Millen, Georgia. He also has four grandchildren; Steven; Madison, Aubrey, and Quentin all from Cresaptown, Maryland. Surviving parents and siblings include his mother Phyllis Purcell and siblings William Purcell, Phyllis Purcell, Maureen Copeland, Darryl Purcell and Colin Purcell.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the James A Haley Veterans Hospital. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over his last days were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank our Heavenly Father for the gift of his life; Gary's profession of the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior and the blessing of the time that we family and friends have spent with him.
A memorial service will be held honoring Gary on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 10:00 at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 US 301, Glennville, Georgia
