Gene Wiggins

Gene Harold Wiggins, 82, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019 at the University of Florida Health/Community Hospice, after suffering from a stroke. Harold was raised at Bethesda Home for boys in Savannah, where he was taught to have a very strong work ethic and have compassion and respect for others that are less fortunate. He attended Commercial High School where he was a member of the Commercial Cobras football team and was also active in track. He never lost his love of sports and continuously advised the TV what they were doing wrong, even if they scored, he told them how they could've done it better. In his middle age he began playing golf again and it soon became his favorite pastime. For many years he was a member of Brazell Creek Golf Club and later served as a volunteer ranger. In 1993 he achieved what all golfers dream of, by making a hole-in-one, and a few years later he made his second. Harold began his career in steel fabrication at Savannah Iron in the late 1950's. He moved to Glennville in 1972 and while operating several small country stores, continued working in the steel business until his retirement from Boykin Erectors in Jesup, Georgia. Harold is preceded in death by, grandson, Anthony Johnson; granddaughter, Michelle Johnson; brothers James E. and Homer E. Wiggins and a son-in-law, Marcus Johnson.

Sister-in-law, Pat Wiggins of Shellman Bluff, Georgia
Great-Granddaughter, Lilly Wiggins and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home. At Harold's request a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
