George Donald King of Glennville, Ga passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 at the age of 88. He was born in Lawrenceville, Ga, on April 30th 1924, to the late Elton Richard King and Linnie Mae Davenport King. He was a loving and caring husband, son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who was devoted to his family. George spent his formative years in Atlanta Ga, where he attended Tech High. He then served his country in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He retired from a long, successful career of 39 years at the Ralston Purina Company where he proudly achieved the prestigious General Salesmanager's Advisory Board Award numerous times. He loved his church and Sunday school class at the First Baptist Church of Glennville, where he was also served as a deacon. He was a former director of The Glennville Bank. Baseball was a talent and passion of his. He was a pitcher for the Grant Park Aces and continued his love of baseball as a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves. In his free time, George was an avid and accomplished golfer and gardener.
He is survived by Jacquelin "Jackie" Williams King, wife of 68 years, son Mike King and wife Maureen of Macon, Ga, son Rick King and wife Brenda of Tifton, Ga, son Ronnie King and wife Paula of Cumming, Ga., son Randy King and wife Debbie of Powder Springs, Ga. Grandchildren: Kristi Shields (Brian) of California; Kelly King (Bryan Moore) of Tifton, Ga., Eric King of Atlanta, Ga.,, Nick King (Ainsley) of Austin, TX, Kristin King of Smyrna, GA, Ryan King of Dallas GA, Lauren King of Atlanta, GA, and Hunter King of Cumming, GA. Great-grandchildren: Emma, Delia, Jonas, and Beckham.
George's Siblings: Kathleen and Ed Gibson of Safety Harbor, FL; Richard King of Blairsville GA; Jack and Polly King of Fayetteville, GA; Bill and Margie King of St. Louis, MO; Harold King, deceased at age 61; Willene King, Deceased as a baby; Dr. Marvin King; Joann and Frank McLeod of Powder Springs,GA; Gary and Brenda King of Rex,GA.
The family will receive family and friends at a Visitation at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville, GA, Wednesday, March 27 from 6-8PM. The funeral service will be at the Chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville on Thursday, March 28th at 2:00PM followed by the burial at 3:00 Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Glennville. The family requests that any donations be made in George's memory to the First Baptist Church 321 West Barnard Street, Glennville, Ga. 30427
