Glennville/Arizona

Grace Elizabeth Knickerbocker, 97, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024, at Oxley Park Health & Rehab in Vidalia, Georgia under the care of Affins Hospice.

Grace was born on October 6, 1927, in Endicott, New York. In her early years, she cherished summers spent on her family farm in Ohio, surrounded by horses, cows, and chickens.

Grace, better known as Gracie, was known for her easy-going personality, characterized by her sweet demeanor and soft-spoken nature, which left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know her.

Grace's early career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at a hospital in Johnson City, New York, laid a foundation of compassion and care that touched many lives. Her journey took her to Tucson, Arizona, where she continued her professional path at IBM until her retirement in 1989.

Grace's life was rich with the love for her hobbies and interests. She found joy in bowling, actively participating in a league, and enjoyed quiet moments filled with reading, playing cards, and indulging in butterscotch hard candies, Tootsie Rolls, and Yoo-hoos. A dedicated NASCAR enthusiast, Grace often made the pilgrimage to Phoenix International Raceway and Daytona, savoring thrilling races from her family's motor home parked in the bustling infield of the pits.

Her personal strength shone through in her most challenging moments, particularly when she bravely faced breast cancer after being diagnosed in 1997 and colon cancer in the mid-2000s. Grace's resilient spirit is something her loved ones will remember with deep respect and admiration.

She was deeply loved by those who knew her, and she will be missed so incredibly much. She is preceded in death by her father, George McCann, mother, Bertha Wolf, sons, Tommy McCann, Donald "Butch" Theodore, Kenny Theodore and daughter, Donna Scamberllri.
