Helga Elizabeth Cecilia Lanigan, née Nicol, passed away this past Sunday, December 18, 2022. Helga “Oma” was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Anni Nicol, and two of her five sisters, Bette Davis and Luitgart Frank. She leaves behind her husband, John Patrick Lanigan Jr., a military retiree, three sisters, Sieglinde Heimbach, Irene Kraker, and Christiane Hauer, along with one daughter, Laura Metzger (David), three grandchildren: James Umland, Patrick Metzger (Kristen), Katie Angelopoulos (George), and four great-grandchildren: Ethan Joseph Metzger, Elijah James Metzger, Elena Jewell Metzger, and Peter Samuel Angelopoulos.
Helga was a homemaker, an Army wife, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She loved dancing, cooking, traveling, bowling, visiting family, shopping for matching shoes and handbags, working puzzles, and eating bear claws with black coffee. She was fiercely loyal, strong-willed, and tough to the very end. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 noon at the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
