Jacquelin Jeanette Williams King of Glennville passed away December 1, 2013. She grew up in Atlanta and attended Commercial High School, an all-girls-school. She was a beautiful red-headed girl with a sparkling personality. She caught the eye of a handsome athletic young man, George, and they became high school sweethearts . They married and happily spent the next 67 years, loving life and raising a family in Glennville.
Jackie, a true southern belle, minus the hoop skirt. Classy, dignified, dressed to a tee from head to toe. One of the last of a generation to give up the white gloves that were the mark of a true lady in her time.
She loved the hymns from her Baptist upbringing, and the music of her era. It was such a delight to her family and friends that the melodies, the lyrics, and the dance steps of those fun days were an everlasting source of enjoyment for her.
Jackie loved and was loved by her siblings. They were attentive, supportive and fun, particularly in her last years.
A Thanksgiving celebration has been a King family tradition for nearly 40 years. Jackie and George will always be missed on this holiday as their clan gathers together. But certainly it was one of God's plans that her children, their spouses, and grandchildren were in town for this Thanksgiving, her special holiday, and had a chance to tell her goodbye.
But if you really want to describe who Jackie was, you know it centered around her boys . The determination and feistiness that were hers were even more obvious when the subject was Mike, Rick, Randy, or Ronnie. She was like a tigress. A fierce and strong advocate for the cubs in her den that could not be harmed by the enemies in the field. One look at the passion in those green eyes would shrink the fiercest of opponents. Those cubs could always be comforted in the security felt by their mother's devotion to them.
Jackie and her late husband, George were a team. They had love, and they had high expectations of their boys. Be moral, be kind, respect your parents, work hard. Stay out of trouble. Present yourself well. Be a good spouse. Be a good parent. Keep your family close to your heart. And... they did not disappoint.
