James A. Lester, 67, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Ponce Therapy Care Center in St. Augustine, Florida. He was born in Beckley, West Virginia on November 7, 1953 to Harmon Preston and Maxine Helmick Lester and was a coal miner until joining the US Army. After the Army he lived in Glennville for 44 years and worked at Georgia State Prison for many years. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, especially country, tinkering on things, working in his yard, playing horseshoes and spending time with his family. James was proud of his military service, loved his country and always supported his fellow law enforcement officers in the line of duty. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Alma Hanes and a brother, Claude Lester.
He is survived by:

Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm at the chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Social distancing of three feet due to Covid 19 will be enforced and masks are asked to be worn on all services.
Care and services are entrusted to Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia.
