James Robert Porter
Metter- Mr. James Robert Porter died Tuesday October 17, 2016 at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia. He was a native of Metter, having lived in Soperton for the last 10 years. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of the Army National Guard after his tour of duty with the USAF. He was a teacher at High Hope working with disabled and handicapped persons, and also worked with The Family Christian Center in Soperton. He was a member of the Metter United Methodist Church. He loved his family, and enjoyed being outdoors hunting and especially fishing. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Bessie Porter; brothers Clinton and Donald Porter, and sister Georgia Leigh.
He is survived by his children Howard (Melissa) Porter of Twin City, and Mariann Porter of Metter. He is also survived by his brothers Lewis (Donna) Porter, of Metter and George (Kay) Porter of Birmingham, AL; sister Angela (Alan) Giles of Atlanta. And friend and mother of his children Polly Bland Porter,of Metter. Surviving also are his grandchildren Whit Porter, Allie Porter, Railyn Porter, and Seage Keel.
Visitation will be on Saturday, October 22, 2016 1:00pm until the hour of the service, at Metter United Methodist Church.
Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, October 22, 2016 3:00pm at Metter United Methodist Church with Rev. Hank Steverson and Rev. Allen Cason officiating.
Burial will be at the Lake Cemetery in Metter with Military Honors.
