James Earl Swindell, age 87, of Glennville GA, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2023, at Cotton Grove Estates, under the care of GHC Hospice. He was born in Tattnall County, Georgia on February 19, 1936, and lived in Long County most of his life.
He graduated from Ludowici High school in 1954. Upon graduation, he joined the US Army National Guard and enlisted into the US Air Force as a Medicine and Industrial Hygienist. He worked in this occupation over the next 20+ years in England, Germany, South Korea, Clovis, New Mexico, Las Vegas Nevada, Savannah, GA, Charleston S.C., and Fort Walton Beach Florida, retiring in 1974, as a Senior Master Sergeant (E8). After his US Air Force retirement, he was employed at Plant Hatch, US Dept of Labor OSHA, until accepting a position with the US Army Medical Department Preventive Medicine Services as the Industrial Hygienist Manager/Supervisor for Fort Stewart/Hunter AAF. He retired on December 1, 1991, with a total of 38+ years of Federal Government Services.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Hilda (Waters) Swindell, Parents, Wallace Leroy Swindell and Ruby Catherine (Deloach) Swindell, Sister, Naomi Swindell, Brothers, Delmer Leroy Swindell, Albert Shelton Swindell, William Arnall Swindell and Great- Grandson, Wyatt Sims Middleton.
He is survived by:

Donna Metts of St. Simons Island, GA.

Derek Metts (Candace) St Augustine, FL
Dr. Danna Metts Harvey, Jesup, GA.
Great Grandchildren: Ben Dutton, Gavin Dutton, Connor Dutton, Ramsey Middleton, Stevie Middleton, Halle Metts, Henry Metts, Hayes Harvey and Hagen Harvey. Step grandchildren Steven Gordon and Erica Gordon.
Sister, Emily Love, Brunswick, GA, brother, Linton Leron Swindell (Carolyn) Statesboro, GA.
Sisters- in- Law, Carolyn Swindell, Wanda Swindell, Geraldine Adams (Bob), Debbie Jordon, Betty Carr (James) and Annette Lott. Brother- in- Law, Wayne Waters
Earl was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family and researching genealogical data. His leadership in the family will be greatly missed, as he was always considered the Family Physician to the entire Swindell Family.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023, beginning at 1:00 PM with services at 2:00 PM at Brannen Family Funeral Services. Burial will follow at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 US 301, Glennville, GA at 3:00 PM with Full Military Honors.
