Jeannie Overstreet Wallace, 75, departed this world and entered her Heavenly home on December 9, 2024, at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida after a short illness. She was a remarkable woman whose legacy will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Jeannie was born on May 23, 1949, in Ft. Benning, Georgia to Betty and Samuel Joseph Overstreet II and was a proud 1967 graduate of Swainsboro High School.
Jeannie spent many years serving her community as the City Clerk for Twin City, where her dedication and commitment did not go unnoticed. After her girls graduated, she went on to work as a clerk operator for Norfolk Southern Railway, eventually rising to the position of secretary for the Superintendent of the Savannah Yard where she retired. In addition, Jeannie took on the role of a poll worker for the McIntosh County Elections Office.
Jeannie carried the lessons learned throughout her life with her and it was evident in her humble, hardworking nature. She was a dynamic and loving person, with a gentle soul that resonated with everyone she encountered. To know Jeannie was to love her; her warmth and kindness did not just fill a room—they enriched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to share moments with her.
Outside of her career, Jeannie found solace in Bluff life, earning a reputation as an avid fisherman and standing as an envy of the Bluff with her skilled use of a cast net. She was deeply devoted to her family, whose love and support formed the cornerstone of her life. Jeannie was a proud member and past secretary of the Sapelo Saltwater Fishing Club and the Spaulding Homeowners Association. Her dedication reached beyond personal pursuits; she played an instrumental role as a volunteer for the Wounded Warrior fishing retreat at Shellman Bluff, a commitment she coordinated each year with boundless enthusiasm and love. In true Bluff style, Jeannie was also a past Grand Marshall of the Shellman Bluff St. Patrick's Day Celebration.
Jeannie was a devoted member of the Shellman Bluff Baptist Church, where she loved to attend and participate in the choir and her Sunday School Class. Moreover, as a member of the HI girls, she fostered connections that lit up her life and those around her with adventures that gave a lifetime of memories.
Jeannie is preceded in death by her father, Samuel Joseph Overstreet II, mother, Betty Hall Anderson or better known as "Ma Pete", brother, Samuel Joseph Overstreet III, a bonus sister, Patsy Overstreet and a niece, Jody Whetsell.
