Jerri Garrison Flournoy, former president of the Long County Chamber of Commerce, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital on Friday, September 17, 2010, following a brief illness. She was 71.
Jerri was born on February 2, 1939 in Bartow County and graduated from Taylorsville High School. She attended Marsh Business College (now South College University). Jerri was a long time resident of Long County, Georgia where she served on the Private Industry Council, the State Health Council, and the State Development Authority. She was a faithful member of Glennville United Methodist Church, where she was chair of the Status and Role of Women Committee and also served on several other church organizations.
Her favorite job was that of wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Richard O. Flournoy, Sr.; her daughter, Leslie F. Johnson; sons Richard O. Flournoy, Jr. and Samuel Matthew Flournoy; her son-in-law, Walter E. Johnson; daughters-in-law Lisa F. Flournoy and Melanie G. Flournoy. She had six special grandchildren, Lauren, Allison, and Heather Johnson, Taylor and Tripp Flournoy, and Emma Grace Flournoy. Jerri also leaves behind three special sisters, Laverne Turner, Hazel Daws, and Martha Gilstrap. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Luna Garrison, and her two brothers, Hugh and Charles Garrison.
