Jimmy Dubberly

March 5, 1942 — April 15, 2017

Jimmy D. Dubberly, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family and friends and under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. He was born in Glennville, Georgia, March 5, 1942 to Alvin and Helen Durrence Dubberly and lived in Savannah from 1960 to 1963 working at Union Camp and attending Armstrong State College. He moved back to Glennville and began his banking career with First Citizens Bank in September 1964. He was a graduate of the Georgia Banking School in Athens Georgia and a graduate of the Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge Louisiana. He worked with First Citizens Bank until 1986 when he left to organize South Georgia Bank. He served as the Charter President and one of the original Board of Directors and currently serves as the Chairman of the Board where he was instrumental in the growth of South Georgia Bank and served 53 years in Banking to the community. He was the charter President of The Rotary Club of Glennville serving two terms as President and a Paul Harris Fellow. He served on various local boards having chaired the Glennville Recreational Commission for several years. He served four years on the Tattnall County Board of Education, and was a member and Secretary of the City of Glennville Downtown Development Authority for several years. He was elected to the Community Bankers of Georgia Board of Directors in September 1994 and again in September 1997. He received the lifetime service award in 2012 from Community Bankers Association of Georgia for 53 years of service to the community in the Banking Industry. He served on the Southeastern Technical College Foundation Board for six years. He was one the organizers of Oceanside Bank in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, and served on the Board of Directors from 1997 until December 2007, when he was elected Director Emeritus. While serving on the Oceanside Bank Board, he also served as Chairman of the Audit Committee. In 1973, he was one the organizers of Gospel Baptist Church (an Independent Baptist Church) in Claxton, Georgia and served as one of the original seven deacons. He is now a member of Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed playing golf with his friends and spending time with his family and canine companions, Zoey and Cooper. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Gene Dubberly, Dickey Dubberly and Derrell Dubberly.

Five Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm, Monday, April 17, 2017 at Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held, 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Cason and Rev. Steve Kimbrell officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
