John Lewis

October 7, 1944 — July 8, 2017

John S. Lewis passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017. He was born in Glennville, Georgia, October 7, 1944 the son of the late Ernest M. and Annie Lou Brown Lewis. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nell L. Mason, and brothers, Marion Lewis, Robert Lewis, and Emory Lewis.
John was a graduate of Glennville High School Class of 1962 and a retired educator, having taught for 46 years. He taught English at Glennville High School, Pinewood Christian Academy, Tattnall County High School, Claxton High School and as a part-time instructor at Georgia Southern University.
He was recognized by students and teachers on many occasions as Teacher of the Year and STAR Teacher. He was a graduate of Georgia Southern College and did graduate work at the University of Georgia. In retirement, he enjoyed working on the family genealogy, Tattnall County History, growing fruits and vegetables in his garden and spending time with his brother Gene visiting local historical sites.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, July 10, 2017 at the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Howard officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Darrie Randall, Jess Strickland, Monty Strickland, Vic Flournoy, A.J. Harris, Jake Durrence, Bran Thompson, Asa Maund.
