Josefa Maria Tipton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and pillar of her community, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, at 88. Born in Oldenburg, Germany, she lived a life rich with love, faith, and resilience.
A devoted wife to Harold Lee Tipton, Josefa was a loving mother to Katherine Lee Tipton and a cherished stepmother to Dawn Trammell (Tony). She embraced the role of caregiver within her own family and community, offering love, guidance, and unwavering support to those around her. Josefa’s greatest joy was her family, and she was a proud grandmother to Brandon and Lizmary Keeler, Fawn and Nick Teeters, Chelsea Trammell, Sarah Trammell, Christopher Trammell, and Tyler Lee Jones. She deeply loved her great-grandchildren—Ashley, Austin, TJ, Molly, Trip, Preston, and Mason—who each carried a special place in her heart. Her family grew with the arrival of her beloved great-great-grandchildren, Maddie and Douglas, and many more who filled her life with even more joy and motivation. Her family was the foundation of her life, and she poured her heart into ensuring that each of them felt her unconditional love, wisdom, and warmth. Her legacy of care and devotion lives on in every generation she touched. Josefa’s love and devotion extended far beyond her own family. Just as she nurtured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with unwavering care, she brought that same warmth and dedication to the many families she embraced in her community.
Josefa dedicated her life to nurturing others and operating her own child daycare center. For decades, she helped raise two generations of families within Glennville, Georgia, creating a safe and loving space where children could grow, learn, and thrive under her care. Her daycare was more than just a place for parents to leave their children—it was a home away from home, where each child was treated as part of an extended family. Many of the children she cared for grew up to bring their own kids into her embrace, continuing a cycle of trust, warmth, and guidance that defined her legacy. Beyond her professional work, Josefa remained deeply committed to her community.
As an honorary Key Spouse, she stood steadfastly beside her husband during his military service, offering support and strength to other military families. Her devotion extended beyond her home—she was a faithful Catholic, a committed Sunday school teacher, and an unwavering source of encouragement for those in her local parish. Despite living through the hardships of World War II, Josefa carried a spirit of grace, resilience, and generosity throughout her life. She put family before herself, fostering a legacy built on love, faith, and service.
Her warmth and unwavering kindness will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Josefa’s journey reminds us that even in the face of history’s greatest challenges, a life led with love and purpose leaves a lasting imprint on the hearts of those it touches. She will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
