Josephine Howser

February 12, 1941 — June 9, 2024

Ludowici

Josephine Bacon Howser, 83, left her earthly home Sunday, June 9, 2024, surrounded by her

loving family in the Donald community where she had lived for over 50 years. She was born at

home in the Jack Baggs house on Herman Parker farm located on Jones Creek Loop in Long

County, Georgia, on Wednesday, February 12, 1941, to Archie and Bessie O’Donnell Bacon. She

attended school at Central and Ludowici High and was a member of the 1961 class. She was a

member of Pigott Branch Baptist Church and loved gospel music. Some of her favorites were

“Come On In” sung by Robert Long, “At the Cross” and “Won’t It Be Wonderful There.” She was

very fond of salmon patties, cheeseburgers, rice pudding, sweet tea and Coca Colas. She hated

pasta dishes and lemon flavor in food.

Josephine had a very hard life, being taught to walk at age 4 by a Jesup chiropractor and having

epilepsy as a child and later being diagnosed as having cerebral palsy. She was very nervous

and any unusual noise scared her. Because of this, we always called her Boo. She had a very

hard time walking, talking and writing. Despite all these hardships she still managed to enjoy

life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Julian Howser, sisters Ouida Nell and

Marilyn Kay Bacon and Susie McKenzie and her husband Fred, brother Tommy and wife Patsy

Bacon, son-in-law David Moody, brothers-in-law Harlon DeLoach and J. W. Martin.

Survivors include her daughter JoAnn Moody, grandchild, David (Stormie) Moody, great-

grandchildren Eden and Easton Moody. Sisters Margie (Gene) Love, Hazel (Roger) Todd, Lois

Martin and Helen (Jerry) Hammer. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Her family wishes to express great appreciation to her sister and caregiver for over thirteen

years, Helen Hammer. Dominique Pacquette and LeAnne Futch were her caregivers whom she

loved dearly. Georgia Hospice provided excellent care and are very much appreciated.
