Laura Reed

August 20, 1927 — January 13, 2012

Glennville
Laura Eades Reed, age 84, of Glennville died Friday, January 13, 2012, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro after a long illness.
She is the daughter of the late James Walter Jenkins and Willie Ruth Jenkins of Atlanta. Laura, the youngest of ten children, was the last surviving child and lived to be the oldest.
She was married for 21 years to John Eades, and from this union, two daughters were born and survive their mother: Becky Eades (Fred) Laufman and Carol Eades Jennings, both of Glennville. Other survivors include three grandchildren: Stephanie L. Ray of Greer, South Carolina; Brian K. Troha of Glennville; and Laura E. Taylor of Orlando, Florida; a favorite nephew, Dr. Tommy Green of Atlanta; and several other nieces and nephews.
Laura was a nurse during World War II. She was a retired secretary from Law Engineering of Atlanta, Georgia. However, in the mid-1960, when Laura's husband, John retired from Life of Georgia, the family moved to Glennville. In the late 1960s, she owned and operate Laura's Ceramics, where the present-day Pine Forest Florist and Nursery is now located on Hwy 301 N. During Vacation Bible Schools (VBS) in Glennville, the churches would bring the children to the ceramic shop for their craft projects. To this day, Edna Belle Mulligan has the treasured gift still on her kitchen wall, a ceramic item made by her son, Mike, during VBS. Laura was also a member of the Glennville Garden Club.
In later years, following her divorce, Laura met and married Charles Reed and they lived happily together for 14 years until his death in 1984.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Glennville United Methodist Church where Laura was a member. A memorial funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Dr. Tommy Green of Atlanta officiating along with the Rev. Vance Riggins, pastor of Glennville United Methodist Church. Burial will be private.
Remembrances: The Tattnall County Animal Shelter, c/o Tattnall County Commissioners, P. O. Box 25, Reidsville, Georgia 30453.
