Lee Glanton McCurdy, age 47, died unexpectedly at his residence at Sutherland Bluff Plantation on Monday evening, February 29, 2016. He was born May 12, 1968, in Savannah.
The son of Jimmy McCurdy and the late Janis Anderson McCurdy, Lee spent his childhood and young adult years in Glennville, Georgia. Upon his marriage to Stephanie Turner, the couple moved to Shellman Bluff, Georgia, where they enjoyed coastal living with their children: Turner, Anderson, Mollie, and Spencer McCurdy. Lee was the owner/operator of Lee McCurdy Construction, LLC; McCurdy Properties, LLC; M&R Utilities, Inc.; and McCurdy Farms. He had an admirable work ethic but always found time and compassion to help others. He enjoyed life to the fullest, taking advantage of the many opportunities to indulge in fishing, boating, shrimping, hunting, and especially spending time with his family. Lee was innovative, building a flounder gigging boat, and making a cast net shrimping boat. He in particular liked offshore sport fishing and won several kingfish tournaments with his exemplary catches.
Lee will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him, as a loving and caring husband, father, brother, son, uncle, and friend. He always seemed to find time to fellowship with family and friends.
He was a charter member of Cornerstone Bible Church in Glennville and attended Shellman Bluff Baptist Church.
Lee was preceded in death by his mother, Janis Anderson McCurdy; a daughter, Mollie Alaine McCurdy; a son, Spencer Miles McCurdy; grandparents: Elton and Sue Nell Anderson and William Glanton and Virginia McCurdy; and his uncles, Robert Anderson and Joe McCurdy, aunt, Joy McCurdy.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Turner McCurdy; two sons, Turner Anderson McCurdy and Anderson Lee McCurdy; father, Jimmy McCurdy of Glennville; his sister, Lisa McCurdy Barry (Rob) of Glennville; nephews, Blake and Jase Barry of Glennville; nieces Cassie and Amanda Barry of Glennville; and his lifelong friend, Chris Sands of Florida.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 5 p.m. at Shellman Bluff Baptist Church, with funeral services to be held on Thursday, March 3,2016 at 2 p.m. at Shellman Bluff Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the McCurdy Resting Place at Shellman Bluff, Georgia.
