Metter Leila Brogdon Odom, 69, died Monday morning after a sudden illness. She lived most of her life in Candler County, retired from the Candler County Department of Family and Children services and also was a day care provider for many years. She was a member of Pulaski Baptist Church. She was a loving, caring and giving person who cherished her family, children and grandchildren. She had a passion for nature and enjoyed gardening, bird watching and was very out going.
She was predeceased by her father Arthur Fair Brogdon, Sr. of Candler County. Surviving, Mother, Essie Mae Wiggins Brogdon Cochran of Statesboro, Husband, Owen Odom of Metter, Four daughters, Connie (Chuck) Fitch of Millen, Jeannie (Mike) Williams of Statesboro, Teresa (Danny) Lively of Statesboro, Deanna (Daniel) Womack of Metter, step son, Teddy (Michelle) Odom of Claxton, step daughter, Denise Odom of Claxton. Brothers, Arthur "Buddy" (Pat) Brogdon of Amelia, VA., Larry (Patsy) Brogdon of Statesboro, Ronnie (Ruth) Brogdon of Varneville, S.C., Phillip Brogdon of Varneville, S.C., Ricky Brogdon of Statesboro. Sisters, Margaret Stanfield of Claxton, Mary Ann Morris of Statesboro and Deborah (Mark) Sammons of Adrian. Fifteen grandchildren also survive along with special pets Rascal and Charlie.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel with burial at Lake cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
