Linda Tussey

Linda Cay Simmons Tussey, 66, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Riverview Rehabilitation Center. She was surrounded by her loving children.

She was born November 9, 1955 in Chatham County to Adriel Wesley Simmons and Manor Jane Todd Waters and lived in Tattnall County most of her life. She is survived by her mother, Manor Jane Waters; her daughter, Jennifer Oliver Grafton (Michael) of Savannah, GA.; her son, Staten Oliver (Wyndie) of Stonewell, LA; and her youngest son, William Tussey (Alexander) of Savannah, GA. She had three granddaughters, Olivia Dusterdieck, Abigale Oliver and Cecelia Oliver, with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Adriel Simmons, her step-father, Gerald Waters, her beloved brother and sister, Charles A. Simmons and Faye Eckhart.

She enjoyed a vibrant, varied career in banking, insurance, administration, and healthcare. After retirement, you could find her riding on her lawn tractor cutting grass, working her flower beds, cooking new recipes (cheesecakes were her forte), sewing everything from drapes to nightgowns, and painting seascapes and still life. She was an avid reader and had quite the book collection. She enjoyed spending time with her mother, “Miss Manor Jane”, a career educator, which she termed as her “best friend”.

As a member and part of a military family, growing up was somewhat different, as she often said, “I was privileged to have the opportunities that most of my friends didn’t have, to travel to foreign places, experiencing varied cultures”. At the age of 9, she attended Wahiawa Elementary School in Hawaii, and then later attended Kaiserslautern American Junior High School in Germany. Every holiday and summer, her family packed up their station wagon and took to rural, off the beaten paths or to sightseeing destinations such as Paris, Belgium, Holland, Luxemburg, Austria, and Barcelona. Later in her twenties, she became a certified PADI diver, where she dove the Sapelo Live Bottom, the Coral Reefs in Palm Springs, lobster diving in Islamorda, Florida Keys, and ship wrecks in Acapulco, Mexico.

She was a loving daughter, mother and grandmother, and was so very proud of each of her children’s accomplishments. She was a member of the Glennville Freewill Baptist Church.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, Monday, April 18, 2022 at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, April 18, 2022 at the chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph Brock officiating. Burial will follow in the Glennville City Cemetery.
