Metter Louis Green, 85, died Monday morning at his home after a short illness. The native and lifelong resident of Candler County was a graduate of Metter High School. In August 1949, he married the love of his life Jeanette. Their union lasted over 60 years until her death in April, 2011. He was a faithful member of the Evergreen Baptist Church since 1944 where he served as a Deacon. He was a farmer who enjoyed growing a large garden to share with his family and neighbors, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was predeceased by his wife, parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Surviving, daughters, Linda (Dewayne) Cowart, Gail (Larry) Ray both of Reidsville, brothers-in-law, Bernie Anderson of Bellville, Billy Anderson of Manassas, sister-in-law, Betty Green of Hillview, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, 11 AM at the Evergreen Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening 6-8PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests remembrances be made to Evergreen Baptist Church, 5250 Hwy 129S, Cobbtown, GA 30420.
