Luther “Buckshot” Reddish, 76, of Glennville, Georgia, passed away, January 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and legendary one-liners. Born in Jesup, Georgia, on October 28, 1948, Buckshot spent his life collecting stories, cracking jokes, and making sure his family knew just how much he loved them.

He was a proud mama’s boy to Janie Ruth Reddish, who is still going strong (and we’re sure still keeping him in line from afar). He was greeted in heaven by his father, Luther Reddish Sr., and his brother Derel Reddish, though there’s no doubt they had a cold drink and a hunting story waiting on him.

For 50 wonderful years, he was the devoted husband of Janet Reddish, proving that love, patience, and maybe just a little bit of selective hearing are the keys to a long and happy marriage. Together, they raised three daughters—Jennifer (Ron) Barrow, Jaime (Matthew) Savage, and Jordyn (Kyle) Sapwell—who were the center of his world until the grandkids came along and stole the spotlight. Jayden, Ryleigh, Brady, Grayson, Hudson, and Beau were the lucky ones who got to call him Papa, and he soaked up every minute with them, passing down wisdom, laughter, and probably a few questionable “fun facts.” In addition to his immediate family and his mother, he is also survived by his brother, Mike (Dawn) Reddish of Ludowici; his Mother-in-Law, Penny Barnes of Glennville; Brothers-in-Law, Bobby (Ann) Barnes of Glennville, Ricky Barnes of Glennville, Jimmy (Michelle) Barnes of Augusta. Several nieces and nephews also survive, all of whom were lucky enough to be loved by him. His special cousin, Mary Grace Driggers, who shared countless laughs and memories with him, will have the honor of delivering his eulogy—a beautiful tribute to a man who lived simply, loved deeply, and left the world better just by being in it.

Buckshot dedicated 42 years to the Georgia Army National Guard, working at the Maintenance and Training Equipment Site (MATES) serving with honor and pride. After retiring, he spent his days doing what truly mattered: hanging out with friends, spoiling his grandkids, and hunting—though, if you ask his family, he mostly enjoyed just being in the woods with good company.

He was a simple man who found joy in the little things: a good meal, a great story, and random trivia that no one else knew (or needed to know). If you ever wondered how many zeroes were in a googolplex, he had you covered. And if you ever doubted his knowledge of Georgia geography, he was quick to remind you—“Waycross is the largest city, in the largest county, in the largest state East of the Mississippi!”

Though he never strayed far from Long County, his name sure did. Buckshot was so well-known that even on the rare occasion his family convinced him to go on vacation—like the time they dragged him to Disney World—a complete stranger tapped him on the shoulder and asked, “Are you Buckshot Reddish?” He may not have left home often, but he didn’t need to—his reputation traveled for him.

Above all, Buckshot was kind. He was the guy who’d give you the shirt off his back, the last bite of his meal (unless it was really good), and a joke when you needed it most. He never met a stranger, never turned down a chance to help, and never stopped loving his family with all his heart.

His family would especially like to thank Heather Folsom with Georgia Hospice Care for the compassionate care she provided during his final days.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, January 24, 2025, at the chapel of Brannen Family Funeral Services where we’ll share stories and honor the man who made the world brighter just by being in it. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm, Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Brannen Family Funeral Services. Burial will be in Pigott Branch Church Cemetery.
