Margarette Patrick

Macon/Metter - Margarette Smoak Cowart Patrick, 88, passed away Thursday at her residence in Macon under the care of Hospice Care Options.

She was born in Candler, County to parents Owen and Neila Holloway Smoak. She was a graduate of Metter High School and moved to Florida in 1955. She was a retired Vice President of Florida National Bank in Vero Beach, Florida and Treasurer of the Vero Beach Woman's Club. After retirement, she returned to Metter in 1986 where she was very active in the community serving as Treasurer of the Metter Garden Club and the Candler County Historical Society and a member of the Metter Chapter DAR. She was also an active member of the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church of Twin City. As her health failed she moved to Macon in 2007 to be near her daughter.

She was predeceased by husbands Elder Otis M. Cowart, and Louis M. Patrick, parents and one brother, J.M. Smoak.

Surviving are daughters, Kathryn (Kenneth) Dohn of Highlands, N.C., Bonnie (Hampton) Dowling of Macon. Sisters, Faye Bishop of Jackson, S.C., Pearline (Bobby) Harrison of North Augusta, S.C., Nina (H.V.) Lanier of Metter. Brothers, Lamar (Francis) Smoak of Hinesville, Steve C. Smoak of Waycross, Britt Smoak of Metter. Grandchildren, Kelley (Darren) DeLaPerriere of Alpharetta, GA, Pamela (Allen) Byrd-West of Tallahassee, FL, William (Sarah) Hampton Dowling of Macon. Great grandchildren, Lauren and Paige DeLaPerriere of Alphretta, Drew Byrd and Alexander West of Tallahassee, FL.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, 3 pm at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church of Twin City with Elder Tommy Rountree and Elder Dan Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service also at the church. Active pallbearers will be Hampton Dowling, William Dowling, Darren DeLaPerriere, Lauren DeLaPerriere, Drew Byrd, Rusty Smoak, H.V. Lanier. Honorary pallbearers are Lamar Smoak, Steve Smoak, Britt Smoak and Kenneth Dohn.
