Mrs. Martha Lanier Sikes, 83 of Cobbtown, passed away Monday morning, March 12, 2018 at Azalea Health and Rehab in Metter after an extended illness. She was born on March 9, 1935 to Mr. John Lanier and Mrs. Mary Thomas Lanier, in Junction City, Ohio. It was in Ohio that she met the love of her life Mr. Foy P. "Sharky" Sikes, while he was in the service. They were married six months after they met. The couple moved around a lot while Mr. Sikes was in the military when he retired in 1969, they made Cobbtown their home. She was a homemaker and a member of the NCO wives club while Mr. Sikes was in the military. She was a member of Cobbtown Baptist Church, and was a housekeeping perfectionist.
She was preceded death by her parents and brothers, Dean and Rodney Lanier.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Foy P. "Sharky" Sikes of Cobbtown; sons and daughter-in-law, Ricki Sikes (Edna) of Jacksonville, Florida; Jeff Sikes of Reidsville; daughter, Vicki Sikes Martin of Claxton; three grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a special niece, Kay Lanier of Junction City, Ohio. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Sikes wishes were to have no services conducted.
