Mrs. Maurice Jernigan McCranie, 82 of Metter, passed away Sunday morning, April 8, 2018 at Candler County Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. McCranie was born in Tattnall County on March 19, 1936 to Mr. Joseph Jernigan and Mrs. Janie Collins Jernigan. Having lived most of her life in Tattnall County, she moved to Metter in 1992 to be closer to her daughter. She worked for a number of years as a Certified Nurses Aid at Claxton Nursing Home, and in her later years as a homemaker. She was a member of the Collins High School Class of 1954 and Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church. In her spare time she enjoyed watching old westerns, reading her bible, attending high school reunions, loved spending time with her cat, Rascal, keeping her granddaughter Janie Henderson and her special grandson, Ben Powell, and spending time with her neighbor and close friend Mrs. Mary Buijnarowski.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Joseph Jernigan and Mrs. Janie Collins Jernigan.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Angela Henderson (Dan) of Metter and granddaughter, Janie Henderson of Statesboro. Numerous other relatives also survive.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, April 10, 2018 from the Metter Chapel of Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes, with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday morning, April 11, 2018 from the Metter Chapel of Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Allen Cason officiating. Burial will follow in the Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Eric Nilsen, Gerald Powell, Jr. Ben Powell, Eddie Kemp, Ronald Williams, and Joe Deloach.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Collins High School Class of 1954.
Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes, Metter Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
