Mr. James Donald Grooms, Sr., 72, of Metter, passed away, Monday, June 8, 2020 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. He was born on June 11, 1947 to Mr. Benjamin Grooms and Mrs. Willette Archer O’Neal in Savannah. He enlisted into the United States Navy when he was in High School and served during the Vietnam Conflict and received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He retired from the United States Postal Service in Des Moine, Iowa, moving back to Georgia after retiring. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching the Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Falcons, the Washington Redskins, and the NASCAR races. He also enjoyed buying guns, target practicing, playing golf when he was able, hunting and fishing. He was a loving caring husband, father and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Joshua Warrick (Nicole) of Des Moine, Iowa
Brother, Tom O’Neal of Lake City, Florida
Grandchildren, Alex, Sarah, Wil, Jules, Madisen, Jayce, Andrew, Matthew, Patrick and Lydia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metter Chapel of Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes with Rev. George Archer officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah on Saturday, June 13, 2020. All social distancing requirements will be enforced at all the services.
