Norman Metzinger

March 31, 1948 — May 25, 2020

Norman A. “Butch” Metzinger, 72, passed away Monday, May 25, 2020 at Community Hospice in Vidalia surrounded by his family. Butch was born to Norman and Ethel Berkins Metzinger, March 31, 1948 in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he became a Gator fan. He spent the remainder of his life in Glennville, Georgia after moving here with his parents in 1955 at the age of 7. Norman was a 1967 graduate of Glennville High School. He and his family owned and operated the San Su Motel and Restaurant for 33 years, where he helped bring the first spaghetti and pizza to Glennville. He also in later years worked at the Glennville Lingerie, Waters Bi-Rite, the City of Glennville and with the Georgia Department of Transportation. He enjoyed listening to the beach boys, bowling, riding motorcycles, collecting watches, displaying the American flag and washing cars. Norman served as a lecturer and Eucharistic Minister at St Jude’s Catholic Church for 40 plus years. He had a “can do” approach to life, making the most of any situation. He was loyal, kind, forgiving and a true example of a faithful servant and patriot. Norman was a member of St Jude’s Catholic Church of Glennville, attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Vidalia and is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by:

Sisters, Susan Metzinger McLendon and husband Benny of Lyons, GA
Sandra Metzinger Durrence and husband Glenn of Glennville, GA

One niece, four nephews, two great nephews and several other relatives also survive.

A Rosary Vigil will be held 10:00 am, Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home. Graveside committal services will immediately follow at Glennville City Cemetery. Due to COVID-19, the proper ruling of social distancing of six feet between others will be enforced.
