Opal Cumi Rushing Purvis, 90, went home to the Lord on Thursday, January 19th, 2017 under the care of Hospice of Savannah and her C.N.A Monique Walker. Opal was born November 25th, 1926 to the late John Robert and Mattie Smith Rushing, the youngest child of five including her four brothers Mark, Roger, Robert and Garnet. As a young adult she worked as a dental assistant, school teacher and with the US Postal Service for 25+ years. Opal loved her family, being a member of Glennville First Baptist Church and her many friends. She was a member of the Ladies V.F.W Auxiliary along with many Church Groups. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Milton Eugene Purvis, Sr.
She is survived by daughter Marcia P, Jones (William), two sons, Milton Eugene Purvis Jr. (Martha) and John Lee Purvis Sr. (Teresa) along with six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was also survived by brother in law Jimmy Purvis, two sisters in law, Betty Durrence and Ann Purvis with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held for 6:00PM to 8:00PM, Saturday January 21, 2017 at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 Sunday January 22, 2017 at Glennville First Baptist Church with burial to follow at Glennville Cemetery.
