Metter Remer Turner, 88, died Monday at Cedar Plantation after an extended illness. A lifetime resident of the Candler/Bulloch county area, he was the owner of Turner Well Drilling since 1949, retiring in 2001. He was a US Navy veteran serving on the USS Pritchett Destroyer when it was anchored next to the Missouri where Japan surrendered. A graduate Industrial Training Institute of Chicago with a degree in Electrical Engineering, his many interests included fishing, going on cruises, flying, dancing, wine making, astronomy and listening to latin music and, as his son Rick said loved him some "well drilling".
He was predeceased by his parents, Marion Walter and Addie Lou Alderman Turner, wife, Bernice Marsh Turner and seven siblings.
Survivors, children, Richard and Dee Turner, Cynthia June Turner and Michael Levy of Savannah, Phillip and Joan Turner of Metter. Brothers,John Turner of Savannah, Jimmy Turner of Bloomingdale. Grandchildren, Emily, Ansley, Samantha Turner.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Thursday, 11 am in the Alderman Cemetery in Bulloch county. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening 6-8 at the funeral home.
