Reidsville,
Retus Iddins, 90, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 at his residence under the care of Community Hospice. He was born on August 17, 1927 in Tattnall County, Georgia to Harvey and Ada Sharpe Iddins. He attended school in Tattnall County and later worked at Southeastern Shipyard in Savannah where they built the Liberty Ships.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1945 and was stationed at Reykjavik, Iceland during WWII. Upon his discharge he started working at Canoochee Electric Membership Corporation as a hole digger making $.60 per hour. During his 42 year career at Canoochee he served in many capacities and attended schools at University of North Carolina and University of Florida receiving various electrical training for many years and retired in 1990 as Manager of Maintenance and Operations.
In 1949 he married Twindle Sands and became an instant loving and caring father to her two young children. He and Twindle were married for 65 years. He loved his family and traveled with them all over the United States on numerous trips. Later they made yearly trips to the beach and mountains and enjoyed his family all being together. He loved the land and farm and raising and caring for his beloved purebred Limousin cattle.
Mr. Retus was also a member and past president of the Reidsville Lions Club and member and Commander of the local VFW post where he was instrumental in the construction of the post building during his term as commander. He was also involved in the organization and planning of the Sidewalk Hobby Show in Reidsville for many years. He was a member of the Tattnall County Cattleman's Association and served as president for 11 years. He was awarded the Sr. Cattleman of the Year award in 2005. He also served as a director for the Georgia Limousin Association from 1989-1996.
In addition to all of his interests and hobbies his greatest love was teaching about his Lord and Savior. He was a member of Pineview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, chairman of the deacons and Senior Adult Sunday School Teacher for 32 years. In his latter years he continued to teach Sunday school at Stoney Hill Baptist Church, until a few months prior to his death.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Ralph, Dorman and Odell; sister, Lucille and daughter, Claudette Durrence Collins.

Son: Donald Durrence and wife, Linda all of Reidsville
Brother: Bernice Iddins of Glennville
Sister: Wanda Wiggins (Harold) of Glennville
Nine grandchildren, special great grandchildren: Emma Grace Hinson, Jobie Hartley, Suter Hartley, other great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Visitation will begin at 1:30 pm, Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 pm from the chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Kimbrell officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Baptist Church Cemetery.
