Metter- Mr. Robert E. Switek, 91, of 105 North Newton Street, Claxton, Georgia; died Wednesday June 11, 2014 at Cedar Plantation in Metter. Mr. Switek was of the Baptist faith, and was a member of Oak Leaf Baptist Church in Orange Park, Florida. A native of Homestead, Pa; he attended the University of Pittsburgh, Youngstown College, Michigan State University and completed the Executive Development Course at Harvard. He was World War II veteran having entered the United States Army as a private in 1943, and was honorably discharged in 1945 as a first sergeant, after seeing duty in North Africa, France, Germany and Belgium. He began his career in the food industry in 1946 as a baby food merchandiser for Libby, McNeill, and Libby in 1946. He held a variety of positions with the company resigning in 1969 as vice president of sales to accept a position as vice president of sales with American Home Foods in New York. He left American Home Foods to accept the position of vice president of sales and marketing for Sea Pak in Brunswick, Georgia. He retired from Sea Pak in 1980 to write and consult for the food industry.
He designed a series of sales, supervisory workshops and presented them throughout the Southeast. Had had actively sold investment real estate with Trupp McGinty Realty/Insurers. He expanded his consulting services to banking (Barnett and First Federal) and insurance (State Farm) industries. He has served as president of Mission Artcrafters, a self-help mission project in the U.S. and Haiti. He has also served as executive director for Brunswick-Glynn County United Way. He was preceded in death by his parents August B. and Edna Faye Smith Switek, wife and mother of his children Dorothy Switek, and wife Patricia Switek.






Mr. Switek is survived by his wife Nancy Shadburn-Switek of Claxton, Georgia son Robert E. (Sarah) Switek of San Andreas, California. Daughters Kris (Harry) Cato of Columbia, South Carolina, Jane (Des) McRory of Stockton, New Jersey; and Wendy Thornton of Atlanta, Georgia; sister Betty Haas of Brunswick, Georgia. Grandchildren Michael Thornton, Erin Thompson, Robin Thompson, Tobin Switek and Catherine Switek; great granddaughter Daniela Rose Switek He is also survived by step sons David Rogers of South Carolina, and Tracy Rogers of Pennsylvania; step daughters Ginger (Richard) Belli of Oak Harbor, Washington and Lyn Scott of Atlanta, Georgia. 2 step grandchildren and 1 step great grand child also survive.



There will be a life celebration for Mr. Switek, Saturday June 21, 2014 2:00pm at Oak Leaf Baptist Church in Orange Park, Florida with Pastor Robert Ball officiating. Another celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 28, 2014 2:00pm at Claxton First Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Hiers, and Rev. Rory Naeve officiating.

As per Mr. Switek's request and wishes, his body has been donated to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
