Ronny C. Smith, 62, passed away in Abilene, TX on April 1, 2010.

Funeral services will be at Kennedy Morgan Brannen Funeral Home on Thursday, April 8 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 7 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Ronny was born in Metter on October 15, 1947 to Clyde William Smith and Annie Coleman Smith. He graduated from Metter High School, where he was named the first Mr. Metterite in 1965. He graduated from Georgia Southern University in 1969 and entered the Air Force in October of that year. Ronny loved his country and was very proud of his military service. He served his country well. He served in the United States Air Force for 23 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel while stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, TX. He was a navigator on C130's. Ronny never lived in Metter after he graduated from high school, but always considered Metter his home. He was employed by Caprock Home Health in Abilene, Tx until the time of his death. He enjoyed spending time with his 4 dogs, Macy, Rex, Pee Wee and Bodger, who were his constant companions.

Ronny was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Smith. He is survived by his wife, Pat, of Abilene, TX; mother Annie Smith of Metter; sister, Janice Jones, and her husband, Jearl of Augusta, GA; two nieces, Sharon Story and her husband, Steve, and their two children Cody and Ashton of Appling, GA and Susanne Jones-Fordham and her husband, Keith, of Millen, GA; step-daughters Nina Wolfe and her daughter Charli Ann of Abilene, TX; and step-daughter Megan Wolfe of Fort Worth, TX.

Ronny made many lifelong friends while in the military. He never met a stranger and will be missed by all who counted him among their friends.
