Mrs. Ruby Varney Blackburn, 86, of Metter, passed away on Saturday evening, September 7, 2019 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.
She was born on August 09, 1933 in Pikeville, Kentucky to Mr. Lewis and Mrs. Vada Varney. She was a resident of Candler County for 48 years. She was a faithful member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching WWE wrestling and eating Mexican Food. Her favorite hobby was taking pictures of her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred Blackburn, Jr.; son, Dwight Russell Blackburn and three grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Bobby Blackburn (Ann) of Soperton, Alfred “Louie” Blackburn (Carol) of Auburndale, FL., Gary Blackburn (Linda) of Metter, Elmer Blackburn (Terry) of Metter, James “Jay” Blackburn (Janet) of Metter, Ruben Blackburn (Angela) of Metter, Ricky Blackburn (Lisa) of Portal, Chris Blackburn (Sheila) of Claxton, Ray Blackburn of Metter and Ruby “Sissy” Vaughn (George) of Metter; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Blackburn of Avon Park, FL; a brother, James Lewis Varney (Sharon) of Meridan, CT 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Metter Chapel Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metter Chapel of Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes with the Reverends Ben Gay and Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Lane, Rusty Marsh, Troy Oglesby, Jeff Durden, Lee Durden, and Ronnie Cowart.
Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes, Metter Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
