Sara Nesmith

January 6, 1924 — April 11, 2012

Metter Sara Lee Hurst Nesmith, 88, died Wednesday afternoon at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro after a brief illness. The daughter of Harley and Annie Hurst was a native of Stillmore, Georgia living most of her life in Candler County where she attended the schools of Rosemary and Metter. Through the years she worked with Taylor Nursing Home of Metter and Frank's Restaurant where she was a wonderful cook and waitress. She was of Baptist faith, a member of Cedar Street Baptist Church, enjoyed fishing, quilting and playing cards with friends. Most of all she loved cooking for her family, playing scrabble and aggravation with the grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, a daughter, Louise Cowart Bartlett, three brothers and three sisters.
Surviving, daugthers, Evelyn Baker of Macon, Faye (Bobby) Edenfield, Helen (Jimmy) Donaldson both of Metter. Sons, Clarence (Ruth) Cowart of Irwington, GA, Charles (Carol) NeSmith of Metter. Sister, Mary H. Curry of Lakeland, FL, Twenty three grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, 2:00 pm at the Cedar Street Baptist Church with Rev. Casey Shaw and Rev. Alan Kea officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from noon until the hour of service. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Honorary Pallbearers will be the Mary Sunday School Class, Golden Ages Group and Deacons of Cedar Street Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Hall family cemetery in Emanuel, County. Visitation will be Friday evening 6-8 at the funeral home.
The family requests remembrances be made to the Cedar Street Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 555, Metter, GA 30439.
