Metter "T. J." Thomas James Rigdon, 89, passed away Wednesday at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Born in Candler County, December 11, 1922 to parents Thomas Henry and Myrtice Cowart Rigdon. He attended schools in Candler County and proudly served his country in three combat campaigns in the European theater during World War II. Mr. Rigdon was a retired farmer and school bus driver for Candler County for twenty seven years. He was a member of Metter First Baptist Church and the V.F.W. He enjoyed fishing, providing a large garden for his family and sharing with the community.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, brothers, Donnie, Perry, Robert, Melvin, Marvin, sisters, Mary, Bertye.
Surviving are his wife, Betty L. Rigdon of Metter, sons, Tommy (Marcia) Rigdon of Metter, David (Randy) Rigdon of Metter, daughters, Linda (Billy) Holloway of Savannah, Carol (Ed) Odom of Collins.
Granddaughter, Kristan Rigdon, grandsons, Jeff (Miranda) Rigdon, Trent (Brandi) Holloway, Chace (Lindsay) Holloway, Hartt Rigdon. Great granddaugthers Mandolin Holloway, Honor Holloway, Lauren Rigdon, Tivoli Holloway, great grandsons, Flynt Rigdon, Thomas Rigdon, Talent Holloway, Cutler Holloway.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, 11 AM at the Lake Primitive Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Lake Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Visitation will be Friday evening 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
