Glennville,
Thurman O. Mobley, 88, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Evans Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville and Glennville all of his life. He was a World War II, U. S. Navy Veteran, receiving a Bronze Star and a Presidential Citation. He was retired postmaster of the Glennville Post Office with 29 years of service, during which time he was named Georgia Postmaster of the Year (1961), Boss of the Year and served as the Georgia State Chaplain of National League of Postmasters and National Associations of Postmasters. He also served as President of the Glennville Lions Club, Director of the Glennville Civil Defense Unit, Chaplain of VFW Post 8379 and was named Citizen of the Year. He was also a member of the Glennville Church of God where he served as Clerk and Treasurer for 20 years.
He is survived by, Wife of 58 years, Lilla Proctor Mobley of Glennville
Daughter, Debbie Waters of Glennville
Granddaughters, Marcia (Chris) Coley of Claxton
Ashley Waters of St. Petersburg, FL.
Great Grandchildren, Jacob Hendrix, Carsyn Coley, Caedyn Coley
Sister in law, Mary Mobley of Glennville
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM, Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home. Burial with follow at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors.
