Van Allen Sikes, 78, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the Griffin House in Claxton. He was born November 5, 1942 to Aubrey Sikes, Sr. and Corrine Kirkland and a 1960 graduate of Reidsville High School. Van was a 1965 graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s of Science in Math. He was employed as a computer programmer for the Georgia Department of Human Resources, living in Smyrna for 20 years and the US Government in Arlington, Virginia for many years. Van was an amazing pianist and entertained his nieces by playing whatever song they requested. Their favorite was here comes the bride, playing for both of their weddings. He enjoyed computers, spending time with his family, and volunteering at the Glennville Welcome Center. Van was a true southern gentleman and a very generous, caring person. He is preceded in death by, his father, Aubrey Sikes, Sr., mother, Corrine Kirkland Smith, brother, Aubrey Sikes, Jr., step-father, Lamont Smith and step-mother, Kathryn P. Sikes.
Van is survived by: brothers, Harry Sikes (Lisa), Al Sikes; sister, Connie O’Neal; sister-in-law, Lynne Sikes; nieces, Allison Palit (Ishan), Angelynne Sheffield (Will), Kaycee O’Neal, Aubrey Ray Sheffield; nephews, Will Sheffield, Shiv Palit, Yuv Palit and a special uncle, Junior Kirkland.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Griffin House and Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Graveside Services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Glennville City Cemetery.
